L. Eric James

Professor James has an MS in health policy and public management from the University of Southern Maine and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maine School of Law. The first 20 years of his career have been spent in research administration, and he was the first Associate Vice President for Research at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He is currently working as a professor in the Iron Range Engineering Program at Minnesota State University, Mankato which is one of the top 10 emerging world leaders in engineering education.

Research Description

My research involves two area. The first is engineering education, especially the area of project-based learning, practice-embedded learning, and work-based learning. The second is entrepreneurship, economic development, and commercialization in both micro- and macro-economic development in highly regulated administrative environments such as universities and hospital/medical schools in their creation and interaction with start-ups and local businesses with a particular eye to understanding the thinking process of developing entrepreneurial skills in students and how those skills map to research on whole-brain thinking.
