Masoumeh Heidari Kapourchali

Masoumeh Heidari Kapourchali is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She joined UAA in Fall 2022. Before joining UAA, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, Laboratory for Computational Audio Perception. She earned her MS and PhD degrees in Computer Engineering from the University of Memphis in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Her research interests are at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cognitive Science, and Computational Neuroscience. As an educator, she is dedicated to conveying knowledge in AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science. Her commitment to these fields is reflected not only in her teaching but also in her ongoing research contributions.

Research Interests

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning: computational model development, multisensory perception, perception and action, and AI applications in Internet of Things and dynamic environments

  • Computational neuroscience: better understanding of how the brain works when performing complex tasks, predictive coding, and active inference

  • Developing AI/machine learning models to assist the hearing impaired 

  • Developing models that can handle challenging and imperfect data
